We were called in the evening time to come to the area that we have our church, Pilipog its about 45mins away from the Rescue House, to collect a young baby that was reportedly about to be thrown into a well by her drunken mother … she was all of three weeks old! We of course rushed out there … to find a very malnourished baby … wrapped in a piece of rag … her body had not been washed in that time … three weeks … can you imagine? When we prepared a bath for her at the Rescue House and began to wash the weeks of dried poo off her body the skin began to come off too!
We had been involved with this family for sometime. Both Gracy’s Mum and Dad are sadly, bound by alcoholism and Mum drank throughout the pregnancy raising several concerns of Gracy May’s intellectual and physical development … Mum was so drunk during the delivery that concerned neighbors had to insist that she attend the hospital. Both Gracy and Mum were quite ill after the delivery and Gracy contracted sepsis …
however after the correct medications and treatment that we supplied she fully recovered … we had been asking how Gracy was but had not seen her until we receive the urgent call for help. When we arrived to pick her up the family were in tears pleading with us to take her and care for her as they feared that she would surely die if she remained in the home environment … both Mum and Dad asked us to help …
So here we are now, we have this frail little malnourished, dehydrated body covered in sores … we bought some formulae dressed her and made her as comfortable as possible … the next day Nick and I purchased the necessary items for a new born in the house … cots, clothing, diapers, formula etc. and so began our time of caring for Gracy … she was immediately loved by all … she truly is a very loveable baby. Our girls particularly love and adore her … she is still with us now. Reaching one years of age now … we nearly lost her to a severe bout of pneumonia … she was seriously ill and hospitalized for nearly two weeks … but thanks be to God … she is fine and growing cuter by the day.
She sees her mother and family regularly as we are there at Church every Sunday and ensure that they family has open access to her at any time … under our watchful eye as both Mum and Dad are still suffering terribly with alcoholism … even to the point of selling walls of their house in order to fund their drink …
Many ask us if we are going to adopt Gracy and make things official … the answer is this … although we believe that Gracy was brought into our lives … and that we love and adore her … she is only here for a temporary time … we are praying and believing that her family will break through and receive the life changing, life restoring, miraculous encounter with Jesus Christ that we know well and have witnessed many times before …what greater miracle than to see that family restored and reunited? We just take each day as it comes and love Gracy as if she were ours because the truth is she is for the time that God permits.
She is a blessing to our lives and we count it a privilege to be apart of hers for however long we are able … we strongly feel that we are only to be a bridge in her life … a temporary stop gap while God works through the lives of the entire family …please stand and pray with us as we see the strongholds over that family bound and torn down and the life, love and power of Jesus released into their lives …
